Is A UFO Coverup Happening In America?
Last month, former President Barack Obama made headlines when he said on a podcast that there were aliens, despite not having actual proof of their existence. While some took the comment as a joke, extraterrestrial advocates saw the remarks as the latest example of a cover up. WGCU’s Teddy Byrne spoke with Ron James, a filmmaker and director of media relations with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), to see if there was anything more mischievous behind the former president’s talk of aliens.

A couple questions here. Are aliens real? They're real, but I haven't seen them. And, they're not being kept in, But is it area? Area 51? There's no underground, facility unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they they hid it from the president of the United States. What was the first question you wanted answered when you became president? Where the aliens were? The aliens? Was it a comment made in jest or something much more? Former President Barack Obama created an online frenzy after suggesting that aliens are real, despite not having direct evidence. The remark, made on a podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen, led many to jump straight into conspiracy theories. Excuse Teddy Byrne takes a dive into the unknown to see if there could be something watching us. Beyond the stars. Well for more on UFOs, aliens and more of the unknown, we are joined by Ron James, a filmmaker and director of media relations with the Mutual UFO network. Mr. James, thank you so much for talking with us. Thanks a lot for having me on. Well, now, so as we just heard in a recent podcast, former president Barack Obama said that in regards to aliens, they're real. But I haven't seen them. But now for UFO believers, when they hear a former head of state making these sort of comments regarding potential extraterrestrial life, what does that mean for this movement? Well, I think that was a genuine slip up. Obama got caught off guard and he kind of let that slip. But I think the most important thing in that interview is what he said afterwards was that unless there's some vast conspiracy where presidents aren't even read in, and the fact of the matter is that we believe that's actually correct, that the people that have been managing this information, which goes back as far as recorded history and in the modern era, back to the 30s, the people that manage this information are very, very deep. We'll never know who they are. And they have the option of revealing this information to sitting presidents who they consider to be temporary help. So I think that was one of the most interesting comments that he made. And it triggered, response from President Trump. And Washington, D.C. has been very involved in trying to get disclosure. There's Congress congresspeople that are really dedicated to the cause. So I think the, the famous Obama slip up, which I've come to call it, may be one of the biggest catalysts for the next step of disclosure. And then that does follow what happened last year where it was Representative Adam Schiff held congressional hearings. Not much was really came from that. A lot of them were more of plausible deniability or just different ways that maybe that you can ignore the conversation while still having it in a public setting. So when these kind of topics get brought up, but nothing comes from this, what does that mean for people that are really looking for any true evidence of alien life? Well, the fact of the matter is that this kind of process, like we're seeing unfold in Washington, has happened before. In the 50s, we had very, very similar public interest, and we had very similar government action. There were panels, there were hearings, there were witnesses that came forward from the military. And then it just all kind of fizzled and nothing came of it. That was definitive. And in 2017, when the Navy videos of of unidentified objects were revealed and Lou Elizondo came forward, with Christopher Mellon from the Defense Department and started saying that, yes, we're seeing UFOs. It's been almost a decade since that happened, and we haven't had any definitive, disclosure from the government that we can count on. And so really, it seems to me and a lot of other people, and it's included in my films, then what we're seeing is an organized rollout of very limited information, being controlled by the same people that have been keeping this in a shroud of secrecy. And then, as you mentioned, President Donald Trump, in response to these comments, has openly said that all documents regarding any research or anything done regarding extraterrestrial life should be released to the public. I mean, if how does that work then if again, nothing is steady or has actual evidence to any actual alien life. Is this just kind of a a farce that people would take that as well? The theory that I put forth in my films, and what I've come to believe, is that there are any number of non-human intelligent beings that are interacting with humanity, and their origins can be any number of places. It can be extraterrestrials from other planets. The theory that's gaining a lot of ground now is that there could be a hidden civilization that's actually here on the planet that we don't know about. It's very advanced. That has been here a lot longer than we have. And then there's interdimensional beings. There's time travel. There's all kinds of other esoteric, possibilities that exist. And so, what we're seeing is that the, the, the people that have been in control of this information and keeping it from humanity for a very long time, understand that we could only keep it under wraps for so long, and that the human race needs to be informed of the truth, that we're not alone. But they're also faced with the dilemma of how do we do this? Because the people that have been covering this up for so long have literally committed some say, crimes against humanity for covering the information and depriving us of this knowledge. So they're between a rock and a hard place, but at the end of the day, they're going to have to come off some of this information because it's only a matter of time until civilian technology is able to detect these things. It's only a matter of time until a rocket lands on Mars and discovers definitive signs of life. So they've got to get ahead of it, but they've also got to be very careful. Well, now you are working on a new film, Accidental Truth, which will be released this spring. You've had the opportunity to speak with several politicians. Are they being more candid about this now that it's becoming part of the public lexicon of discussing UFOs or are there still kind of these talking points that you feel that they're trying to hit, instead of giving what you hope would be the full truth? Well, you know, it's interesting. Let me just clarify. The film Accidental Truth came out in 2023. It's narrated by Matthew Modine. It won a lot of awards and was called one of the best UFO documentaries ever. The one that's coming out in spring is called Accidental Truth next. And it's all about it's it's kind of a sequel to the first one, again narrated by Matthew Modine. And it's all about what do we do after we understand that we're being engaged by non-human intelligence? And what does that mean for humanity? So it's it's a fascinating film. In response to your question, our sitting congresspeople are the ones that I've talked to, and most of the people that are involved in this from a political level, I have had conversations with and interviewed most of them. They genuinely care about the topic just as much as us. Just because you're a sitting congressman doesn't mean you didn't watch Ancient Aliens when you're growing up. So at the end of the day, these guys are just as interested in the information and they're being stonewalled and abused, with secrecy, just like the rest of us. So what's interesting is just because you're a sitting member of Congress doesn't mean that you can summon the military into your office and have them tell you classified information. So there's a lot of people on Capitol Hill that are trying to get, the information from the the deep buried government and private industry sources, and they are genuine crusaders in the fight. But at the end of the day, I'm dubious as to rather we're ever going to get 100% of the story from the people that are inside of government and industry. Well, now, I'd like to talk about some of the work you do with the mutual UFO network, also known as Move On. A lot of what people can do when they go to your website is they can actually report both sightings and abductions. I believe you have over 140,000 witness reports. How many of these do you actually gets the chance to investigate? And is there any validity to anything that you've had in part of these reports? Yeah. You know, movement's been around. It's we're at our 57th year. It was a civilian organization that chose to pick up the work with Project Bluebook when that ended back in the in the 50s. And over the years, we have thousands of investigators all over the world with the largest organization studying this stuff. And we have, as you said, well over 140. I think it's up to 150 or 60,000 reports. And when a report merits an actual boots on the ground investigator to go out, we are the only group that has the people to do that. And what it usually takes is there has to be something beyond just one witness with one story, those we can take over the phone. We can call the person. We can take it from a report, submitted to our website. But every once in a while, we get the ones where there's multiple witnesses or there's some kind of physical evidence. There could be traces on the ground. And those are the ones that we will actually send somebody out to do a full blown investigation. And so that being said, about 94% of the cases that we receive have logical explanations, but it's that 6% that we can't solve, even with all of our skills and our trained investigators that, you know, it's those that matter. At the end of the day, it only takes one. Well, it seems like we are getting closer and closer to some sort of confirmation of something beyond our planet and whether that is extraterrestrial life or maybe something of the past. There might be something coming in with your expertise, and having done research and studying and talking with people. What do you think the public reception would be if there was any actual confirmation of alien life? Would it change the world, or would this be just the news of the day and we would move on to the next thing? You know, it's all about the context of it. People ask that question all the time. Is humanity ready for the truth? And we can handle the truth. And at the end of the day, if the revelation is, hey, we're not alone in the universe, there's other intelligence. The. They're interacting with us. We don't perceive a threat. Then for most people, life's going to go on. They're going to be like, yeah, well, we've been watching television for a long time. We're the ancient aliens generation. So we're not surprised. Keep us posted. But if the revelation were to be, hey, there's non-human intelligence. They're interacting with us. Their technology is far superior than ours, and we're not sure what their agenda is. And they could potentially be a threat. Well, that would change the entire landscape. On how humanity reacted to it and how people took the news personally. So it's not a black or white answer. It's all about the context of how it's delivered. I think most people at this point, and I think the statistics will back it up. Most people believe that there's some kind of other life in the universe, and most people believe the government knows more than they're telling. And most people believe that, you know, non-human intelligence exists. So it wouldn't be a big surprise. Well, fingers are fingers crossed that they come in peace. So thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us about this and have a great day. Thanks for having me.
